In this tutorial, you will discover the different features to look for in a web host and how to choose the best plan at the best time from A to Z.

There are several web hosting companies, there are multinational companies and others national, how to choose? Read this tutorial!

Let's go !

What are the characteristics of web hosting?

Types of web hosting

Here are the different types of WordPress hosting available on the market:

Shared hosting:

This is the cheapest hosting on the market, it's like renting space in a shared hosting with several other websites, it's like the Airbnb of the internet.

VPS (Virtual Private Server):

This is the solution I use on Easytutoriel and my other websites, it's a solution that offers the cheaper price and freedom of a dedicated server but it's virtually created by the company, you can find several VPS in a dedicated server, but not the other way round.

VPS (managed):

Here you will get a VPS that is managed by the hosting company, you will benefit from the management and advanced technical support, it will cost you a few euros more but it's worth it!

Dedicated hosting:

This solution is for giant sites with a lot of traffic and resources, this solution is not scalable but offers the best performance for webmasters on the internet.

Cloud Hosting :

Here you have a solution for high traffic sites (like Shopify or Facebook) at a per second rate (ex: Amazon S3, Google Cloud, ...), it's really for web giants but also for professional webmasters as long as you only pay for what you use.

Storage Space and Bandwidth

Both are essential, as it is the storage space and bandwidth that usually differentiate hosting plans within the same web hosting company.

It is important to know that when you want to start a blogging adventure or a business based on WordPress (ex: Woocommerce, ...) the size of the site will be minimal, but over time and with more content the site will become larger and therefore you will need more resources.

The same thing with bandwidth, at the beginning you can start with the most basic plan but with time and with more traffic you will need to increase the features especially the bandwidth.

The Number of CPU cores, RAM and Anti-Ddos Protection

Web hosting is like a computer dedicated to serving your visitors the content of your website through your domain name.

The performance of your website is directly correlated with the number of CPU cores and the memory size (RAM) without forgetting the technologies used by your hosting such as anti-ddos protection.

CPanel Administration or other?

Personally I always prefer to use WHM/cPanel with my hosting, other hosting providers offer custom administration interfaces. It is a matter of preference.

If you want full control over your web hosting choose a cPanel solution, otherwise any web hosting will do.
